Many thanks to everyone who entered our recent competition,
we loved hearing your pizza topping ideas and your stories of
Mamma's Pizza over the years!
We invited diners to create the most innovative pizza topping in celebration of our restaurant's 25 successful years in Edinburgh's Grassmarket.
Black pudding and red onion marmalade were some of the unusual ingredients suggested by the winning three entrants taking part in our recent competition cook-off.
Jason-Leigh Thomas, Simon Larner and David Waugh, beat stiff competition with their creative pizza topping suggestions. Jason-Leigh's ‘All American' pizza included cactus, artichoke, proscuitto, garlic and fried egg; Simon's ‘The BER' featured black pudding, poached egg and rocket, and David's pizza Papa del Gusto was topped with red onion marmalade, goat's cheese and basil.
We were delighted with the number and quality of entries received.
We were so impressed with some of the suggestions that it was very difficult for us to narrow it down to just three entrants but we were happy with our final choice and really excited about the new topping ideas.
The winning three entrants cooked their pizzas in Mamma's kitchen in an exciting Pizza Cook-off, before a panel of expert judges.
The winning toppings will be used on a special pizza named after its creator and featuring on the Mamma's menu throughout summer 2011. After much deliberation David's Papa del Gusto won the top prize.
David received free pizza free for a year, a complimentary table for four and an invitation to our 25th Anniversary party. His winning pizza will feature on our next menu which is currently being updated.
